Are you looking for a challenging project, at the boundary between science and engineering? We are making history in Quantum Technology with the first Quantum Internet Demonstrator projects . Do you have production experience with Integrated Photonics and Quantum Technologies? TNO is developing next generation Quantum Communication networks and is looking to expand its team of system engineers and researchers.


You will be working in the Quantum Technology department of TNO in challenging and complex high tech projects. We perform directly for research clients or in close collaboration with the TU Delft in the QuTech research center for quantum computing and quantum internet. QuTech addresses scientific and engineering challenges in a joint effort with industrial partners .

TNO’s mission is to apply scientific knowledge and technology into higher TRL (Technology Readiness Level) applications. We do this on the topic of Quantum Technology as well, designing and building quantum devices, as well as systems that leverage on their properties (for application in Quantum communication, computing or sensing).

You will be working in our team of researchers and system engineers focusing on the next generations of Quantum Communication Systems. Our team was leading the first generation of quantum communication systems based on NV centers to demonstrate the potential of a Quantum Internet networks. The NV centers experiments indicate limited performance. Therefor we have initiated the development of the next generation of advanced and innovative Quantum network technologies.

In developing of the next generation you will be having a key role in contributing to the definition and development of these next generation systems, focusing on Integrated Photonics. You will work together with a number of peers, also from other departments in TNO and in close collaboration with TU Delft researchers (Professors, Post Docs and PHD Students). You will connect closely to our nanofabrication specialists as well as System Engineers whose expertise will be needed to help you demonstrate the capabilities of your systems.

The expected work requires the following technical proficiency and background:

  • Msc or PhD degree in a relevant field (Physics, Optics, Quantum Technology)
  • Indepth knowledge and experience with Integrated photonics for Quantum.
  • Knowledge and experience in single photon/quantum optics
  • Preferably knowledge and experience in packaging and manufacturing technologies
  • Having modelling experience is a pre requisit
  • Creative, innovative and solution driven
  • Good communication skills (primarily in English)
  • Teamplayer

The second interview round has been scheduled for weeks 35 and 36. In a final meeting we will discuss the terms of employment and your tailored benefits package.
