Cryogenic and Electronics Engineer | Delft
Are you looking for a challenging project, at the boundary between science and engineering? Do you have experience with maintenance of complex scientific equipment? TNO is developing laboratories and demonstrators for Quantum Technologies and is looking to expand its team of engineers.
WHAT WILL BE YOUR ROLE?
You will be working in the Quantum Technology department of TNO in projects we perform directly for clients or in close collaboration with the TU Delft in the QuTech research center for quantum computing and quantum internet. QuTech addresses scientific challenges as well as engineering issues in a joint center of know-how with industrial partners.
TNO’s mission is to apply scientific knowledge and technology into higher TRL (Technology Readiness Level) applications. We do this on the topic of Quantum Technology as well, designing and building quantum devices, as well as systems that leverage on their properties (for application in communication, computing or sensing).
Most of our technological demonstrators require professional engineering to maintain and operate cryogenic equipment (dilution refrigerators) as well as electronic hardware. This type of activity is typically done in close collaboration with users of the facility who are focused on the functionalities of some subsystem of the demonstrator (for example the quantum chip or one of the control electronic equipment). You will bridge the gap between a smoothly running facility and constant improvements sought on every part of its constituents.
You will work in several different labs together with other engineers to maintain, operate and improve our equipment. You will also be surrounded by TNO researchers and TU Delft scientists who will make use of your facility and propose improvements when needed. You will take the lead and work together with them to implement such improvements. You will develop a professional way of working with this novel type of equipment that allow for reliable access and predictable performances. You will be the face of TNO toward external end-users of our facility and train users that need to gain independent access to the equipment.

The expected work requires the following technical proficiency and background:
- Bsc. or Msc. degree with familiarity of cryogenic equipment and vacuum technologies
- Previous experience with dilution fridges (including operation and cabling) strongly preferred
- Organized way of working and good at scheduling activities
- Creative and solution driven
- Good communication skills (primarily in English)

THE SELECTION PROCESS
Please apply before the 8th of August 2022. The selection process comprises two interview rounds. The preliminary interview takes place in weeks 33 and 34. The second interview round has been scheduled for weeks 35 and 36. In a final meeting we will discuss the terms of employment and your tailored benefits package.
